Muted reaction from a criminal lawyer to word that the man convicted of the Christchurch terror attacks, is considering appealing his life sentence.

It's being reported Brenton Tarrant's lawyer says he pleaded guilty to the murder of 51 people last year, because of inhumane and degrading treatment while awaiting his trial.

Tony Ellis says neither was the trial fair, because documents were withheld.

Criminal lawyer Steve Cullen told Mike Hosking there's a pretty robust system that would address any arguments that are mounted.

“I don’t necessarily see this is as going to have any great momentum but we have to just and wait and see what it is he proposes to put before the court.”
