A rise in popularity in veganism has prompted more labelling on foods in New Zealand.
The Vegetarian and Vegan Society is launching a tick of approval to label food and beverages to let people know which items are for them.
Many businesses are able to hide animal bile and bones in their products without proper labelling.
The Vegetarian Society's National Manager, Stephanie Lane told Mike Hosking that although the tick will be on a voluntary basis, she thinks lots of companies will get involved.
"The vegan market is growing just astronomically right now, so I think a lot of the savvy businesses are figuring that out and making sure their products are ready to go."
Lane says the tick will help with transparency.
"There's definitely issues that vegetarians, as in food labelling, there's no legal basis so it's just based on guessing or taking people's word for it."
