Is the Health Star food rating misleading?

Research published today in the Journal of Public Health shows less than a third of products are brandishing the labels since their introduction nearly five years ago.

It also says three-quarters of starred products, are at the healthier end, with three to five stars.

Co-author of the study, Cliona Ni Mhurchu, told Mike Hosking a number of companies only get the labels for advertising.

She said unless they are mandatory companies will only use them when they know they will get a good score which is misleading to consumers.
