Rotorua moteliers are facing weapons, drugs and violence as increasing numbers of homeless people are put up in motels.
3000 households are still living in motels around the country through the government's temporary housing scheme, at a cost of more than $100 million a year.
Rotorua Motel Association chair Shelley Hobson-Powell told Mike Hosking around 25 percent of them are good, able families.
"The other 75 percent of these people are just horrible.
"I mean, there are reasons why these people can't secure a rental property."
