There are fears a new fungal disease will spread throughout feijoa crops.
Anthracnosefungus has devastated a number of crops in Kerikeri, with concerns it will travel down the country.
Feijoa Growers Association president Roger Matthews told Mike Hosking this comes on top of dealing with the guava moth which has been causing issues for 20 years.
"The guava moth, for most it's probably more of an annoyance, but with the athracnose, people are suffering 90, 95 per cent food loss."
Matthews says there's no control measure yet to prevent this disease.
"Feijoa growers south of Kerikeri are hoping that it is reliant on semi tropical rain and high humidity, and hoping that it won't spread."
