Boris Johnson could soften his stance on Brexit now, as he becomes Britain's next Prime Minister.

The Conservative Party has chosen the former foreign secretary and former London mayor to replace Theresa May.

Johnson is committed to taking Britain out of the European Union by October, with or without a deal.

But political commentator Rod Liddle told Mike Hosking the hardline Brexiteer may end up accepting the kind of Brexit deal he's also opposed in the past.

"There will be lots of bluster and energy in a Boris Johnson leadership, but I don’t how much principle will be around."

Johnson hasn't ruled out holding a general election before he leaves the EU in October.

Rod Liddle says that would be a bad idea.

“If he did that he would be up against a Brexit Party which is doing very well, and it would be a battle the Conservative party very well could lose.”
