There have been mixed emotions over the Government's traffic light announcement.  

On the December 30 everywhere south of Northland will be in orange. 

However, Northland will be staying in red till at least January 17.  

Ricky Houghton is chief executive of Kaitaia housing project, He Korowai Trust. 

He told Mike Yardley while the decision will impact the region, they're not currently ready for a major outbreak. 

“I think that all the services are on overload, we’ve got 36 high-dependency beds between Northland and Auckland. When you see the news and four beds occupied, that leaves 32.”
