The forestry industry says there are still a number of issues with the work visa programme.
The government has announced a new employer-led work visa to help fill skill shortages, reduce exploitation, and improve conditions.
Forest Industry Contractors Association chief executive Prue Younger told Mike Hosking it doesn't address a big issue for them.
She says the industry can bring migrants in for three years but then they get sent home for a year before they can get a new visa.
"The sustainability of a field worker after three years, we lose them and we have to turn around and do it again. It also costs the contractor money as well."
