The Police Minister says it's important the country remains on high alert for now.

A number of ANZAC Day services have been cancelled, as police channel resources into key events.

Stuart Nash said they've received advice that there's a threat of copy cat attacks for around six weeks after the mosque shootings.

However, he told Mike Hosking there's been no order to cancel events.

"Police have never instructed anyone...about what they should or shouldn't do. They just give advice and recommendations."

He said the Police are constantly reassessing the threat level to make sure Kiwis are safe.

When asked why the threat level couldn't be lowered now, Nash said there are "people of interest they are looking at".

But he admitted that there is nothing to suggest there is any threat to any Anzac events.

"I haven't heard of anything that would suggest there is an imminent threat. There is no information to indicate that there is any threat to any Anzac service anywhere."

However, National MP Mark Mitchell told Mike Hosking the Police need to be more clear about what's actually going on.

"The Police need to come out and say 'yes there is still a risk, there is a risk of a copycat. The Police have got to be very clear about this."

Nash said the police are already being very "open and transparent" about the whole situation.
