Judith Collins is being tipped as the winner of last night's debate, but only just.

The National party leader went head to head with Jacinda Ardern on issues including Covid-19, housing, health and cannabis.

Former Labour and United Future MP Peter Dunne told Mike Hosking whether you agree with Collins or not, she gave clear answers to questions.

"Ardern was still a bit vague and waffly, and hard to pin down. Collins was sharp and specific. But they were both a lot better than last week."

Dunne says people mainly watch out of curiosity.

He says it's unknown how much the debate will influence people's votes, but the polls only moved a little bit after the last debate.
