The Pentagon has finally admitted to investigating UFOs as part of a secret government initiative.

It's revealed a government branch called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program that investigates reports of UFOs or "unidentified aerial phenomena".

It was allegedly shut down in 2012 but is still activated when unidentified aircrafts are encountered by the U.S military.

U.S Professor of aerospace engineering, Iain Boyd, told Mike Hosking sightings are more common than you would think.

"Worldwide there are thousands of reports a year from pilots but if you think of all the hours those aeroplanes are up there flying around, it's no surprise that strange things are seen."
