It's hoped a controversial Shortland Street episode will force a change in the way we view Down syndrome.
In a recent episode of the TVNZ drama, a pregnant mother was urged to abort her baby, amid fears it could have Down syndrome.
Disability Rights Commissioner Paula Tesoriero says the Shortland Street episode failed to highlight the range of options available.
"With the right supports and services people with Down syndrome can thrive and we want a more diverse New Zealand."
