It's being suggested that it is time to keep a closer eye on some foreign students in our universities.
There are warnings in Australia of tertiary institutions there facing an unprecedented threat of foreign interference.
A local expert says it's bound to be happening here too.
Strategic analyst Paul Buchanan told Mike Hosking we've already picked up on graduate students and young researchers, whose research project started to go in a strange directions.
"They were not the project that they necessarily signed up to do when they arrived in country, and those were flagged by security agencies."
He says that this new report isn't entirely new, as security experts have been watching how the Chinese are working this influence landscape.
