It could be harder than ever to get people off their devices, once the much-hailed 5G network arrives.

Vodafone has announced it will roll out its 5G network launch in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown in December.

Technology expert Paul Brislen told Mike Hosking if you're an avid gamer or video watcher then you're going to want 5G.

Brislen says it also allows business to create new technologies to work in synergy with the network.

But Telecommunications Users Association CEO Craig Young says most devices aren't yet advanced enough to use it.

He says there are only a few devices out there at the moment that are 5G capable.
