There is pressure on the government to get infrastructure projects up and running.

It comes as Fletcher Building reveals a thousand of its jobs will go in New Zealand, which is the equivalent to about 10 percent of its workforce.

The government has set aside an additional $3 billion in this years' Budget to fund projects across the country.

Infrastructure New Zealand Chief Executive Paul Blair told Mike Hosking there are some challenges ahead.

"$136 billion worth of project ideas have been submitted and getting that down to three-billion is a considerable task."

Fletchers say lock down and Covid-19 will have a significant impact on their business, expecting a sharp downturn in the financial year of 2021 and potentially beyond.
