There are concerns for New Zealand's international student market.

The Auckland International College is shutting as the pandemic response causes uncertainty.

Both domestic and international students attend - but the roll has halved to 136 as travel restrictions and lockdown continues.

It will close in 2023 so current year 12 and 13 students can finish their studies.

College Council chairman Nigel Burton told Mike Hosking other countries have beaten New Zealand to it.

“The pool and availability to get back into the New Zealand prospect has been reduced and the competition that we’re facing as a country has heightened.”
