Some firearms owners say they are getting a raw deal from the gun buyback events.
The Council of Licensed Firearms Owners has suggested members should hold on to their banned guns until more options are available, and better compensation is offered.Â
The group's spokeswoman Nicole McKee told Mike Hosking some of the events have been quite hostile.
McKee says police are looking at some of the parts and accessories that are being returned, and are taking members aside to interrogate them.
McKee says the government needs to explore the other avenues which were proposed.
"We are coming into September and we still don’t have all of the avenues available for people to hand in their firearms.
"We need more, time better packages and more avenues for this to work properly."
