The MP for Auckland Central has won the backing of the Auckland Council in her bid to have alcohol advertisements pulled from elite sport.Â
The council has unanimously passed a motion calling on all MPs to support a Member's Bill put forward by Chlöe Swarbrick.Â
It seeks to end alcohol sponsorship of broadcast sport and remove the appeals process from Local Alcohol Policies.Â
Alcohol Healthwatch Executive Director Nicki Jackson told Mike Hosking there's clear evidence exposure to alcohol advertising encourages young people to drink.Â
She says it normalises and glorifies alcohol.Â
Jackson says multi-national companies connect with sport because they want to create loyalty and connection with consumers.Â
