An American academic says young Americans are completely fed up with racism,  and institutional and democratic breakdown.

The unrest in the United States over the killing of African-American George Floyd is believed to be the worst since the assassination of Martin Luther King.

Alvin B Tillery Junior from Northwestern University told Mike Hosking American media has a tendency to focus on property damage and to tag it as violent protest.

"Most of what I have seen is protesters expressing their democratic right to be outraged by the execution of an American citizen by a police officer."

Tillery says unemployment is up to 40 million people and people in the Gen Z age group, are incredibly vulnerable.
