St Kentigern College has confirmed to its parental community and former pupil network that it needs to review its policy on sports scholarships and change the culture of its First XV.

In a letter to parents, head of St Kentigern David Hodge and chair of the board Dr. John Kernohan say, "some re-balancing is required in our approach to our First XV programme".

De La Salle College principal Myles Hogarty told Mike Yardley there are certain bylaws in place which stops the transferring of players from one school to another.

"There are certain guidelines in place to stop this type of thing happening. The integrity of Schoolboy rugby is damaged when elite schools are poaching players."

When asked if they have had discussion with St Kent's, he said more cooperation from the school would be a good thing.

"The position of the other schools remain clear, St Kents will not be excluded from the competition, its just that other schools will not play them in 2019. All other 11 schools have signed the guiding principles document."

St Kentigern have admitted they had offered five elite players from outside the Auckland region full scholarships to bolster their First XV in 2019.
