New Zealand's electricity industry could potentially reach crisis point next year, according to a recent report.
Trustpower says a dry year in 2019 is a "real possibility" and warns that some retailers may not be prepared for it.
Hydrolakes are low because of a lack of rainfall, and thermal generators are only running at 40 per cent of potential capacity.
Electricity and Energy consultant Murray Ellis told Mike Hosking the increase of the country's population is not helping the situation.Â
" This year, the demand has quite noticeably grown from last year. You also have an economy which is expanding as well."
