Tens of millions of dollars is being spent in dialysis treatment because the government has failed to take action on a promise made in 2017.  

The government promised to increase the amount of kidney transplants as part of a six-step strategy. 

Only one of those six steps has been carried out.  

An NZIER report found we could save 70 million over the next six years with just an extra 50 transplants a year. 

Kidney Health general manager, Michael Campbell, said they want the Government to invest more in promoting transplants. 

He told Mike Hosking transplants would actually save on money and staffing issues as opposed to continuing with the dialysis approach.
