The Sky Sport Breakers may get blocked from the Australian basketball league play-offs, heading into the final round.

Melbourne United can thwart the hopes of the New Zealand-based franchise after they beat Cairns to move into fourth on the ladder with a 22-point differential on the fifth-placed Breakers.

Both those sides and Brisbane are tied on 14 wins, with each club having one game remaining in the season.

The Breakers face the South East Melbourne Phoenix tonight in Christchurch.
