A new survey shows one in ten Kiwi kids have met an internet stranger in person.
Almost 40 percent of the 2,000 nine-to-17-year-olds surveyed have contacted a stranger online.
However Netsafe's Martin Cocker told Mike Hosking 63 percent said the meeting was a happy experience.
"The majority of the times people make contact its positive and young people say I'll be fine, it'll be fine, and then the one time is when its someone who does mean them harm, its harder to prevent that sorta connection."
He says it's hard to know how many are taking precautions on the web.
"I think that they are hearing what we are saying to them about dangers about the way people behave online and the risks online. The difficulty is getting them to make a good decision even with that knowledge in mind.
"It's hard to say if that is something we are making success on or not."
