Every Friday morning, Mike Hosking takes you through the big ticket items of the week and lets you know what he makes of it all.

Harry and Meghan.

7/10 and 3/10.

"Seven because I wish them well. I think we all wish them well.

But three because they have made such a self-centred mess of it, bailed way to soon, and shown themselves to be unable to look outward in the way a life of service demands. And they had his grandmother and dad as exemplars."

Shane Jones.

6/10.

"He gets marked up for the climate change comments around eating less meat, good on him.

But he gets marked down for the business with the Provincial Growth Fund, Bellamys, and meetings that weren't meetings."

The Unions.

4/10.

"Already this week they’ve started whinging.

We don’t have enough teachers, we don’t like overseas teachers.

Then the nurses, we've got to pay the nurses more.

Please tell me we aren't in for a year of more union bleating."

Student Allowances.

7/10.

"The Greens have every right to be aggrieved.

They, and Labour, promised to restore post graduate allowances, they haven't.

What happened to the year of delivery?"

Vodafone's Summer Hours.

7/10.

"Friday afternoon off, doesn’t that happen most places?

And the bloke who invented the four day week has a book out this week, and claims it's sweeping the world.

Remember the days a job meant you actually worked?"

Hampton Downs and the Supercars.

8/10.

"Here we come.

And dare I suggest it's one of those occasions where the whole event will be improved given it’s a better track?"

Election Year.

8/10.

"I love election year. I love the cut and thrust, I love the expectation, I love the argy-bargy, I love the panic and exhilaration.

And it's election year twice, here and the US.

Fill your boots, and we will."
