Mark the Week: Corrections the latest government department to fall short

Every Friday morning, Mike Hosking takes you through the big ticket items of the week and lets you know what he makes of it all.

Here's a taste of what he reckons.

The All Blacks 7/10

Quite the week. How long has it been since we started this poorly, made this many major changes out of need (as opposed to experimentation) ….and still don’t now that tomorrow will end that well.

Productive land 8/10

One of the government's potentially better moves. We say potentially given we don’t have detail... but the idea that we actually act to save fertile soil against endless sprawl is something we will look back on with pride.

The Sustainabe Party 7/10

Over the membership mark, a new party in the mix ... no bad thing for an electoral  system that's proved an utter failure in producing sustainable, successful small party choice.

Boris 7/10

Third week unsullied. Polls back him, he's got Europe where he wants them, Trump backs him, New Zealand backs him …only 76 fun days to go

The Warriors 7/10

If we can do that to Manley we can do it to the Roosters (this is our year)

Reuben Wiki and Stacey Jones 9/10

Rightly placed in the Hall of Fame

Huawei's letter 15

.. as in pages. Are you serious? 15 pages to Andrew Little ……how to win friends and influence people

Support Womens Sport Basin Reserve 2/10

Fell a mile short.

It's funny how you can sit in a room with a white board and come up with an inane idea ….and no-one actually says …hey that's an inane idea

Prisoners voting 2/10

Insanity. You give them the vote and next thing they’ll be asking for is to write letters to Russia.

Corrections 2/10

What is it with common sense planning and doing your job? Add NZTA to the mix, add CAA to the mix, add stats to the mix...

Hands up if you're a government department that actually has their act together.

Anyone? Helloooooo?

James Shaw 3/10

Bad week on the credibility front. Was he making it up when he said the Census would be fine, or did he just not have a clue?

Liz McPherson 6/10

At least had the good grace to own it and walk.

Sam Wong 8/10

The doctor from the kids hospital in Colorado, who's showing us the folly of the cannabis vote. Kids addicted, kids over-dosing, potency up, arrests up, lots of tax but nothing but bad news.

Once again we thank Chloe Swarbrick for directing us to Colorado

Hong Kong 4/10

How can this end any way but badly.

The Chinese aren't introducing democracy, and the protestors don’t have an army.

NZ Steel 7/10

Their zero carbon submission shone stark light on the ideological madness of the green utopia.

Four thousand jobs.

No government gets elected or re-elected when they're tossing people on the street.

Jacinda lecturing Morrison in Tuvalu on climate change 3/10

There is a self importance there that endears her to no one.
