There has been something of a wakeup call to our government over a maritime bubble.
One luxury cruise company, Regent Cruises, has just withdrawn a ship that was supposed to travel between here and Australia this year, because of uncertainty.
The New Zealand Cruising Association's chief executive Kevin O'Sullivan told Mike Hosking there has been little to no discussion with government on the issue.
“We feel because there is already a safe corridor between Australia and New Zealand, there’s no reason why can’t be discussing the same options with government for bringing cruise ships back to New Zealand. We’ve hit something of a brick wall at the moment.”
