The weed killer Roundup is in the spotlight after a US court awarded a janitor US$440 million after they ruled roundup contributed to his terminal cancer.

It is currently the number one used weed killer in New Zealand.

There are now questions over whether it is safe or not to use.

Northland Provincial President at Federated Farmers John Blackwell told Mike Hosking that he has been using it for 40 years.

He says he needs a bit more science before he decides that it is such a killer.

“It’s a product I intend to keep on using.”

He says that most farmers consider this to be a safe alternative.
