A big and bold name change is being touted for the Basin Reserve.

A group of female Olympic athletes has launched a campaign to change the name to "Support Women’s Sport" Basin Reserve.

They are looking to crowd-fund $100,000 for two years of naming rights.

Campaigner Jason Wells told Mike Hosking it will help to change the conversation around women's sport.

He says the coverage is not equal and a different and bigger change is needed.

Wellington mayor Justin Lester and Cricket Wellington both support the change.
