A small South Island town remains abuzz over its mystery lotto winner.
The $17.1 million winning ticket was bought in Twizel late last month.
Lotto is considering hiring a private investigator, with the winner yet to come forward.
Mackenzie District Council's Deputy Mayor James Leslie lives in Twizel, and told Tim Dower a lot of locals are looking sideways at each other.
"Everybody knows each other, and as time goes by it's looking less likely the winner is one of them."
Mr Leslie believes the ticket was put in a Christmas card and hasn't been checked yet.
