Cabinet will today consider whether to increase the 10-person limit on private gatherings at Alert Level 2.

It comes amid mixed messages on the issue, with police updating their guidelines to say more than 10 are permitted unless groups can be separated.

The Health Ministry is currently reminding people restrictions still apply to religious services.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has repeatedly argued services or similar gatherings are unsafe as those attending are more likely to mix and mingle.

She says the limit could be increased in phases.

The Prime Minister is keeping tight-lipped around a potential easing to Level 1 restrictions, but expects to be able to reveal more  after today's Cabinet meeting.

She told Mike Hosking we have to remember Covid-19 is still in New Zealand.

For her new opposition leader, the Ardern has welcomed a compliment on the work of National's new leader Todd Muller.

Muller was quick to praise Jacinda Ardern's handling of the coronavirus crisis, after his election on Friday.

"He's said that he wants to move away from being opposition foal for the sake of it and I welcome that, we've got a global pandemic we need to be focused on."
