The Advertising Standards Authority is defending its processes, after a controversial decision about ice cream and happiness.
It's ordered Unilever to remove an ad outside a Whangarei dairy, reading "ice cream makes you happy", ruling the ad could undermine the health of consumers.
Unilever is appealing the decision, saying the ad is exaggerated puffery.
Authority chief executive Hilary Souter told Mike Hosking the watchdog follows a robust process.
"We set standards about what responsible advertising standards are, and consult with the industry and public about those standards."
"If we get a complaint, we assess it against the code, then we make a decision."
