A new healthcare organisation being launched today wants to create a Auckland simulation centre for surgeons.

The Auckland Health Foundation foundation has been in the pipeline for nearly two years.

It will rely on public donations and put the money towards new technology and advances, not funded by the Government.

Chief executive Gwen Green told Mike Hosking the simulation centre will benefit medical students as well as experienced surgeons.

"We need to be able to train in an environment that mirrors those in a hospital, like the emergency room and operation theatres."
