A public policy expert thinks New Zealand should sign the United Nations migration pact.
The first ever UN global agreement on a common approach to international migration is being ceremoniously signed in Morocco.
UN representative Craig Hawke is there to see if we should sign or whether we should follow Australia, Switzerland and the U.S by choosing not to be part of it.
Massey University's Associate Professor Grant Duncan told Mike Hosking he thinks we should sign it.
"I think it will increase international co-operation, so ti will actually maker us easier for us to conduct our own policy, which generally is pretty good. New Zealand has a pretty good human rights record, so I don't think we have anything to fear."
Duncan says the pact is non-binding and won't affect our sovereignty.
"It recognises our national sovereignty and our right to set our own laws."
