The government's foreign donation ban is being criticised for leaving many loopholes untouched.
A Bill being passed under urgency lowers the limit on foreigners' political donations from $1500 to $50.
But electoral law expert Graeme Edgeler told Mike Hosking it's a crackdown on something that's hardly an issue.
"A bigger concern is if a foreigner owns a New Zealand company, that company can legally donate far more to political parties."
A recent donation scandal involved the National party receiving $150,000 dollars from a China-owned but New Zealand-based horse racing company.
Edgeler says that would still be allowed under the bill.
'The law change is better than nothing, but could be a lot better."
