Concern about a lack of consultation on the High-Wealth Individuals Research Project. 

It's aimed at figuring out how much the ultra-rich pay in tax, as a share of their economic wealth. 

Inland Revenue has started writing to 400 New Zealanders with a net worth of at least $20 million, asking about their assets. 

PWC partner Geof Nightingale told Mike Hosking the Government is using a power to collect this data that they didn't consult on. 

“That they rushed through, in urgency in 24 hours, and we don’t know the full limits because it’s never been consulted on. So they’re conducting a highly intrusive process, with a power that they granted themselves with no scrutiny.”
