The Auckland Council's being warned proposed by-laws could see thousands of freedom campers setting up in suburban parks.
Aucklanders have until today to have their say on proposals that would see freedom camping allowed at all parks - except those where there's evidence against it.
In the Albert-Eden ward, it would be prohibited in only three parks, leaving some beside kindergartens, community centres and retirement villages with unlimited access.
Albert-Eden local board chairperson Peter Haynes told Mike Hosking they don't have the capacity to make a case for every park across the region.
He said they have prohibited several hundred parks, but there are thousands out there, meaning they'll be many with no restrictions.
