The Government has categorically rejected a capital gains tax.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern made the announcement yesterday afternoon, saying there was no mandate and no consensus for a CGT.

In doing so, the Prime Minister has rejected a key recommendation from the Tax Working Group - which cost an estimated $2 million to run.

Former Labour Party member and blogger Shane Te Pou, along with former National Party president Michelle Boag, joined Mike Yardley to dissect the government's decision to scrap the long-planned tax and how this will play out politically.
