People in Los Angeles are finding it hard to get around because of the wildfires.

Five major fires are raging in Southern California and are being fuelled by strong winds.

Around 30,000 people have been evacuated from their homes and several hundred of them have been destroyed.

KTLA reporter Eric Spillman told Mike Hosking because of the widespread nature of the fires, freeways have been blocked in various places.

"And because of that schools have cancelled classes and workplaces have told their employees if you can work from home or don't have to come in today, that would be best."

Spillman said LA doesn't have a mass transit system people can rely on.
