GPs are calling for a greater role in clinical care, for people self-isolating with Covid-19.

Health and Disability Commissioner Morag McDowell is seeking an urgent response from health officials, to concerns about people not getting the clinical care they need when self-isolating.

ProCare Clinical Advisor Dr Allan Moffitt says evidence from Canada shows at-home isolation can be done safely.

He told Mike Hosking people should be getting regular check-ups from their GP or another medical professional, and should raise the alarm if they get particularly short of breath.

“People often deteriorate quite quickly between days eight to ten, that’s the period we need to watch out for. With the proper monitoring we should be able to predict that.”
