One expert believes new figures showing the type of injury, and the number of people being injured while boxing isn't really that worrying.

Figures published online, show that in the past three years, there have been around 14,000 injuries related to boxing, including bone fractures, concussions, cuts, and more.

ACC researcher Doug King told Mike Hosking the injuries are no different to people being injured during a ruck in a rugby match.

"What someone has done is taken some numbers and made them look rather bad, but they are not really analysing it fully and they are not analysing it by how many were actually in match participation, the ACC data doesn't capture that."
