Cabinet ministers will be pouring over data, modelling and advice when it reviews covid restrictions this afternoon.
Ministers will review the current restrictions in both Auckland and Waikato.
Jacinda Ardern says ministers will factor in the city's high vaccination rate, as well as considering the latest Covid modelling, which shows Auckland could reach 200 cases per day this month.
Auckland University Emeritus Professor of Medicine Des Gorman says told Mike Hosking the whole focus needs to be on protecting the health system.
“If that’s true, then the only two bits of data that matter are how many people are there in hospital, how many people are there in ICU. Everything else, with all due respect, is almost sort of superfluous.”
