The Trade Minister says reaching a free trade agreement with the European Union won't come without contention.

David Parker says European farmers are likely to be resistant to signing a deal.

He told Larry Williams if a deal is reached, it would add billions of dollars to our export market.

"We expect over time exports to the European Union, which of course is a high-value market, to increase by ten and twenty-two percent."

Two-way trade with the EU and UK is currently worth around $20-billion.
