Some alarm bells but also cause for optimism in how we're seen by our trading partners. 

Research done by government agency New Zealand Story has found Australia, China and the US still see us as inclusive. 

However, Germany, Japan and the United Arab Emirates see this country as isolated, unfamiliar, unprepared and closed.  

Chief executive David Downs told Mike Hosking we have to go back to our core values as a nation to deal with those dips. 

“Like who do we want to be known as, in explaining our vaccine response, explaining our Covid response making sure people realise that caring for people is a big part of who we are as a nation.”
