Something, somewhere, went wrong for our intelligence services not to know of the terrorist.

At least 49 people were killed, and a further 48 injured, after gunmen opened fire at the Masjid Al Noor and Linwood Masjid, with a livestream of the horrific massacre being broadcast on the internet via a camera on one of the gunmen's helmets.

Security expert Paul Buchanan told Mike Hosking Australian intelligence were unaware of him as well.

"To those who say they should have seen his social media ranting and those sorts of things, there was very little lead time for the intelligence services to act."

Buchanan said there is nothing intelligence teams could do once the attack began.
