The country's two big supermarket chains are being accused of land banking to lock competitors out.
Consultants, First Retail Group, says international grocery stores have looked at opening their doors in New Zealand.
Managing director Chris Wilkinson told Mike Yardley it's been a pointless exercise because they can't find property.
“In many areas the good sites have been locked out by the big two who seem to be land banking a lot of properties.”
