As Hurricane Florence put a corridor of more than 10 million people in the crosshairs in the southeast of the United States, people in the northern Philippines were bracing for Typhoon Mangkhut, the most powerful storm of the typhoon season.
Niwa principal scientist of forecasting Chris Brandolino told Mike Hosking that so many monster storms is not a cause for panic.
" It is unusual in terms of a global context, but it is not unheard of. This is the historical time period for when we receive the big cyclones."
