Details continue to emerge of the suspicious death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi had questioned the authoritarian rule of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman , and described some of the prince's aides as thuggish.

Otago University professor Bill Harris said it's hard to tell why they wanted Khashoggi dead.

But he told Tim Dower it could relate to the temperament and character of the Crown Prince.

"Can't take any criticism, flies off the handle, is fairly temperamental and even in some respects unstable, and can't run a decent foreign policy."
