The creator of a new living space with 22 car-park sized bedrooms has defended the minimal size.Â
Auckland has new accommodation called The Coh, short for co-home. It's a three storey 22 bedroom complex on Symonds Street where residents pay up to $360 a week - but they get perks such as Sunday roasts, a Netflix subscription for the in house movie theatre as well the option of group outings and road trips, and it is fully furnished.
It's designed for young adults who want to meet new people and it was set up by Ben Spence.
He told Mike Hosking he got the idea after seeing similar iterations in San Francisco.
"It was a similar age for our target market, 22 to 35-year-olds."Â
Spence says it is the best possible location, as it is close to the Auckland CBD and public transport.Â
The smaller sleeping area is off-set by the larger shared space, Spence says, and they are pushing the "safe, friendly" community environment.Â
"These days, young professionals such as myself are working Monday to Friday and are only really sleeping in my bedroom at night and storing my belongings, so it's going down that track."
