The Broadcasting Standards Authority is launching public consultation looking to see if we still use timebands.
Timebands or watersheds restrict programming around swearing and content at certain times of the day.
Belinda Moffat is the BSA chief executive and says the research collected shows not many people are aware of time bands.
"Our research has shown about 63% of people are aware these, but only 29% will actually use it to decide if it is the right programme for my kids."
